Northampton Town Football Club has been taken over by a British-Brazilian consortium called Sports Alpha Capital (SAC). The takeover was confirmed by the club, with SAC including former AC Milan, Chelsea, and Brazil forward Alexandre Pato as an investor and board member.
As part of the takeover, existing owners David Bower, Nigel Le Quesne, and Kelvin Thomas will retain a 30% shareholding in the club. SAC's Joao Xavier and Tim Chamberlain will become co-chairmen, taking on a key role in the club's future direction.
In a joint statement, Xavier and Chamberlain expressed their pride in becoming custodians of the club with its rich history, passionate supporter base, and important place within the community. They emphasized the importance of sustainability and understanding the club's significance to the people of Northampton and Northamptonshire.
The new owners stated that they have ambitious plans for the club, but these plans must be balanced with a deep understanding of what the club means to its supporters and the local community. They committed to working closely with the Community Trust, supporters, staff, partners, and local stakeholders to ensure a strong relationship and continued growth.
The club also announced that it will provide further details regarding Sports Alpha Capital, the new Board, and future plans for Northampton Town Football Club in due course. Northampton will next face Cambridge United in the EFL Trophy next week, marking the beginning of a new era for the club.
