Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho expressed his admiration for winger Vinicius Junior, describing him as a "spectacular kid" with a "fantastic" personality. Vinicius, 26, has faced challenges since joining the club in 2018, including being targeted by opposition fans and experiencing racial abuse on multiple occasions.
Mourinho praised Vinicius's ability to maintain a positive attitude, saying, "He's a tremendous credit to him for the fact that he keeps living and surviving and still having a smile..." The coach also acknowledged that Vinicius has been subjected to negative influences, stating, "No one or nobody can... well, influence him negatively yes, because he's human..."
Despite these challenges, Vinicius signed a new contract with Real Madrid until 2032 in the summer. However, questions remain about the club's ability to field a team with attacking superstars like Vinicius, Kylian Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham without losing balance.
Mourinho expressed his appreciation for Vinicius's love for the club and the city, saying, "Because he loves Real Madrid, for loving the club and the city, for believing that things can always improve, he renewed and he keeps on smiling..." The coach also took Vinicius off during the 4-3 Champions League win at Roma on Wednesday, as the winger continues to struggle to regain his form.
Mourinho was pleased with the four-match ban given to Vinicius, believing that some members of the Spanish football federation's disciplinary committee would have imposed a harsher penalty. Madrid face Sevilla on Sunday, aiming not to fall further behind league leaders Barcelona, who visit Real Betis later on Saturday.
