Real Madrid secured an eighth consecutive La Liga home win by defeating Sevilla 4-1 at the Bernabeu, reducing the gap between them and Barcelona to six points.
The match began with a goal from Arda Guler in the 30th minute, assisted by Yan Diomande and Jude Bellingham. Guler's wonderful looping finish over Odysseas Vlachodimos broke the deadlock.
Kylian Mbappe had a chance to score a second goal, but Odysseas Vlachodimos prevented him with an outstretched leg. However, Mbappe didn't have to wait long to add his name to the scoresheet. Bellingham backheeled the ball into the Frenchman's path, and he effortlessly took it into his stride with some incredible footwork before turning home from close range just seven minutes after Guler's opener.
Thibaut Courtois was a spectator in the opposite goal until he made a fine one-handed save to keep out Lucien Agoume's strike in first-half stoppage time.
Sevilla showed signs of encouragement after the restart, but Real struck next from the spot. Diomande slotted a ball through to Mbappe, whose heels were clipped by Castrin in the box. Referee Mateo Busquets pointed to the spot, and Mbappe coolly converted a panenka penalty past Vlachodimos.
AC Milan loanee Youssouf Fofana attempted to cut the deficit back to two, but Courtois parried away his strike from just outside the box.
Manuel Bueno gave Sevilla hope of an unlikely comeback with a clinical left-footed strike, but Diomande capped off another impressive display with a ferocious effort of his own just two minutes later to re-establish the hosts' three-goal lead.
The win was an emphatic way for Real Madrid to secure a sixth win from their last seven games across all competitions and leapfrog Real Betis into third ahead of next week's El Clasico meeting with Barcelona.
Sevilla are now winless in 16 La Liga head-to-heads and remain sixth after suffering a third league defeat this season.
