Fulham player Alex Iwobi is focused on breaking a Premier League record held by Kolo Toure, despite recently surpassing Mohamed Salah's appearance count.
The 30-year-old Nigerian international has achieved a notable milestone in his career, but he is not content to simply celebrate his past accomplishments.
"I like to look ahead and see what I can achieve," Iwobi said in a recent interview with Fulham media.
"It's nice to have a record, but I'm trying to break Kolo Toure's record. So, I keep my eyes on the goal and see if I can break it."
Iwobi has been a key player for Fulham since joining the team in September 2023, after previously playing for Arsenal and Everton.
Recently, Fulham drew with Aston Villa, and Iwobi reflected on the team's performance, admitting that they were frustrated not to secure maximum points despite initially viewing a draw as a satisfactory outcome.
"We're happy with a point, but we thought we deserved three," Iwobi explained.
"We created so many chances, and I should have scored as well. But we're working on finishing in training, so hopefully, that luck will come, and we'll start scoring more goals."
Iwobi also shared his insight into Fulham's equalizer, revealing that he was convinced the ball had crossed the line but feared the goal might be disallowed following an incident involving the goalkeeper.
"From my angle, I could see it's gone over the line. But then Shea said he's grabbed the keeper, so I was like, oh no. But the luck was on our side, and it was a goal."
He believes Fulham's recent performances demonstrate that their hard work is beginning to pay off, with the team now enjoying a three-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.
"If you keep on working hard, luck will eventually go your way," Iwobi added.
"We feel like recently this season we've been performing really well in most of our games. So, it's only a matter of time until the reward comes our way. So yeah, we just have to keep this momentum going."
